READERS have responded well to the Mail’s annual festive appeal - but are being urged to keep needy youngsters in the minds and give more.

The Mail has launched the Give a Little Gift campaign in conjunction with MKM Building Supplies in Hartlepool and it is hoped to be the best year yet.

The idea behind Give a Little Gift is simple.

Readers are asked to drop off unwrapped presents for youngsters less fortunate than themselves at the MKM base in the town’s Burn Road.

Small gifts such as cuddly toys, perfumes, shower gels and selection boxes are just as welcome as any bigger presents.

We will then distribute your collection between official causes across town.

Among the groups we have dealt with in the past are: Hartlepool Women’s Aid, the Hartlepool Outreach service, Hartlepool Families First and Hartlepool Borough Council’s social services department.

Mick Sumpter, a director at MKM T Building Supplies Hartlepool, said: “We are getting a steady flow of people coming through with gifts.

“About 50 gifts have been donated so far but we want to get the number through the roof.

“There are people in this town who are really in need of help and support.

“We want people to give anything they can and remember that they are making a real difference to a young child and making their Christmas special.”

People can bring their gifts the town’s MKM branch in Burn Road on Monday to Friday from 7.30am to 5.30pm or Saturday morning 7.30am to noon.
