Hartlepool boss frustrated at no penalty decision

Accrington had controlled much of the game and deserved their three-goal lead before Rakish Bingham fired a stunning 78th-minute shot past Jason Mooney.

The sub threatened to go clear six minutes from time at the Crown Ground, only to be tripped by defender Joe Wright.

It looked a certain penalty, but instead of pointing to the spot, the Lincolnshire official waved away Pools’ claims.

“He was in,” said Moore. “How the ref doesn’t see it, I don’t know.

“I spoke to the referee afterwards and he reckoned Bings did not have full control of the ball.

“But for me, he’s had a great touch and got away from the lad, who’s clipped him.

“Bings is not going to go down there is he? He’s in front of goal having just scored a beauty.

“It’s so frustrating - had we got the pen and scored then it’s a different game. If it got to 3-2, who knows?

“It would have been something we would not have deserved, but sometimes it happens in football.

“We put a lot of effort into that last 25 minutes but we can’t give teams a 45-minute start like we did and expect to win games.

“You look at Saturday and think you’ve turned a corner but, all of a sudden, you are back in the mire.

“But these are the games you say if you are not going to win it, don’t lose it - try to take something from it.”

Moore admitted Accrington played some irresistabler football with the front two of Billy Kee and two-goal Shay McCartan linking up all the time with the midfield of Matt Crooks, Seamus Conneely, Sean McConville and Piero Mingoia.

“Accrington had too much nous, especially up front,” said Moore.

“They were too good for us, that sometimes happens. Our two lads [Scott Harrison and Adam Jackson] could not cope, but they are only young lads, they will come back.”

Moore said Pools had worked hard in training on Sunday and Monday in trying to counter the Stanley attacking threat, but the side did not perform.

“We said in the build-up to the game that we had to show Accrington down the line, but how many times did we let them come inside?” Moore told SportMail.

“When that happens it allowed them to dictate the game.”
