Hartlepool brewery duo will join Jeff Stelling's fundraising walk

A top duo at a Hartlepool brewery are raising a toast to the battle against cancer.

Camerons chief executive Chris Soley and financial director John Foots will be joining intrepid television presenter Jeff Stelling when he embarks on an epic charity walk this month to help tame prostate cancer.

The long-standing host of the Soccer Saturday programme on Sky television is teaming up with leading men’s health organisation Prostate Cancer UK, in his bid to complete 10 walking marathons in 10 days.

He will set off from boyhood club Hartlepool United and make his way to Wembley on the walk between March 21 and March 30.

And the Camerons duo will be there beside him on the Hartlepool leg of his 250-mile journey on March 21.

Jeff’s Men United March will see the 60-year-old check in on 31 football clubs and he will also be joined every step of the way by close friend, and Hartlepool United Chief Executive, Russ Green.

En route, he will be joined by famous friends and colleagues and people affected by prostate cancer while Carlsberg have signed up as a supporting sponsor.

Chris and John will tackle the 26 miles from Hartlepool to Marske, via Middlesbrough Football Club’s Riverside ground.

And their preparations are already going well. They have smashed their original £1,000 target and have now reset it at £2,000.

On top of that, Chris is already a veteran of a recent marathon while John can usually be found tackling 18 holes on a golf course.

Chris said: “Prostate cancer is a pretty horrible disease and we know too many people affected by it.”

He said his own father-in-law Gareth Burriss, 70, from Cardiff had been diagnosed and would be doing the walk despite being in the early stages of prostate cancer.

Jeff launched the Men United March live on Soccer Saturday and said: “I deal in statistics – but the ones we are dealing with here are shocking. One man dies every hour from this disease, that’s six in the course of Soccer Saturday every week.”
