He praised the hard work of Miles for Men officials towards helping young children and families across the North East.

Mr Kerr described the cause as “truly amazing” and said he was only too happy to give his support.

Miles for Men started in April 2012 when its founder Michael Day decided to launch a fundraising project in tribute to his late father, Michael Day Senior who sadly lost his battle with throat cancer in 2007 aged 67.

Michael wanted to do something in memory of his father and suggested a sponsored run for men.

The first was held in August 2012 and has been an annual Hartlepool attraction ever since.

Miles for Men official Kevin Hill said: “The charity is delighted at Joel’s donation. It is great to have the backing of local buisnesses.

“It shows people are taking notice of the hard work the team puts in to the charity.”

But Kevin was keen to praise others and said much of the success was down to “fellow volunteers who are always behind the charity 100%.”
