Charity officials have said '˜thank you' to a terminally ill man for the way he thought of them when he raised money.

A fantastic £2,650 was raised for Macmillan by Hartlepool man David Ward, 47.

He got wonderful support from his friends – particularly Brian Goodlad and the staff at the Greensides – in putting together a fundraising night for the charity.

His original hope was to raise between £1,500 and £2,000 for Macmillan, whose help has included financial support and regular visits from Macmillan nurses.

David has oesophegal cancer which spread to his liver and stomach.

He wanted to show his appreciation for those who had come to his aid.

Macmillan Hartlepool official Derek Redman was delighted with the amount raised, and said: “A huge ‘thank you’ to management staff and patrons for this wonderful donation of £2650.”

We first told David’s story last year. At the time, he said: “Macmillan has been excellent. People don’t realise how much they can help.”

To help more people living with cancer, Macmillan relies on public donations.
