Hartlepool choir on song for charities

Hartlepool Male Voice Choir presented donations totalling £450 split between Hartlepool Coronary Support Group, the Artrium and Hartlepool Coastwatch.

The money, handed over at The Duke of Cleveland pub, was raised from the choir’s popular Christmas Concert at the Borough Hall in December.

Choir members nominated the charities they wished to help.

Bill Wilson, of Hartlepool Coastwatch, which alerts the coastguard and police to any incidents along the coast, said of their donation: “It’s marvellous. They have helped us out in the past and we are really grateful.”

Albert Armstrong, of the coronary support group, said: “The choir support all the voluntary groups and churches and they do the town a lot of good by singing all around northern England.

“I think they do a magnificent job.”

The Artrium, in Park Road, provides a place where anyone can go and lose themselves in art for a few hours.

Project manager Colin Thompson said: “Because we are a charity and self funded this money is going to go a long way to helping our members and we are very grateful for it.”

Lookout for the male voice choir this Saturday when they will be performing in Middleton Grange shopping centre to attract new members and collect money for Hartlepool RNLI.
