Hartlepool Coastguard warn that Heugh Pier is ‘not a playground’ after children become stuck on the wrong side

Three children were reportedly stuck on the wrong side of Heugh Pier as strong waves crashed over the top.

Emergency teams from the Hartlepool Coastguard were called to the scene at around 7.20pm on Sunday, October 4, after receiving a report from the Humber Coastguard.

It stated that three children were stuck on the wrong side of the gate on the Heugh Pier, with strong waves crashing over it.

When crews arrived, all the children had made it back to safety.

Posting on the Hartlepool Coastguard Facebook page, a spokesman said: “We were paged by Humber Coastguard to reports of three children on the wrong side of the gate stuck on the Heugh Pier with strong waves crashing over the top.

“Please be very vigilant upon going on the Heugh pier with over topping waves it’s not a playground and is very dangerous."
