The History A-level students at the town’s Sixth Form College in Blakelock Road aim to launch the book in June of this year, which will chart the history of Hartlepool Sixth Form College going back to its origins in the early 20th century.

The project is supported by Hartlepool Council, Atkinson Print of Church Street and Young Enterprise – an organisation that works with young people aged 15 to 19, helping them to find out about what it is like to set up and run a business.

Young Enterprise Manager Denise Chapman said: “The students will set up a real company and be expected to produce a business plan and appoint a Board.

“In essence, they will be trading just like any other business.

“It is a great opportunity for students to experience the real world of business.

“They will have to research the book, arrange the writing, design and print and organise how they are going to market it to ensure the project is financially viable.”

Councillor Kevin Cranney, chairman of the council’s Regeneration Services Committee, said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for the town’s students to learn vital new skills to help prepare them for the world of enterprise and business.”

Student Ellie Lawson, 17, from Hartlepool, said: “I want to apply to university to study English literature and history so the experience will be really valuable for my application.

“There is a long history associated with the college so it should be a really interesting book.”
