Hartlepool council unveils new intake of apprentices as it reveals it employs more than any other council in the North East

Council chiefs have welcomed a new intake of apprentices - as the authority has more of the young people on their books than any other council.

A new intake of apprentices has been welcomed by Hartlepool Borough Council.

A total of 44 young people are being taken on this year by the authority which employs more apprentices than any other council in the North East.

They are working in a variety of disciplines, ranging from administration, accounting, customer service, cultural services, housing, civil engineering, plumbing, electrical, horticulture, IT and building maintenance.

They join a number of other apprentices already employed by the Council who are moving on to the next level.

Councillor Christopher Akers-Belcher, the leader of the council, said: “I would like to take this opportunity to welcome all of our new apprentices to Hartlepool Borough Council.

“I am proud of our apprenticeship programme – Hartlepool Borough Council employs more apprentices than any other council in the North-East – and I know that these young people will make a big contribution to the wide range of services that we provide to residents of the town.”

Chief Executive Gill Alexander added: “We recognise that young people are our future, so I am particularly proud that we invest significantly in creating an apprenticeship programme that is one of the best.

“As one of the town’s biggest employers, we also acknowledge that we have a responsibility to make sure that our young people are given a chance to get their careers off to a really good start.

“The young people coming into the Council are extremely important in that they bring with them enthusiasm and fresh ideas which, in turn, really invigorate our teams.”
