The fortnightly sessions, which recently began at Summerhill Country Park and Visitor Centre, run every other Tuesday between 9.30am and 11am.

Each session involves a short story and the children then take part in either an indoor craft session, or an outdoor activity.

The sessions, which cost £4, are open to children aged between two and five and booking is advised as places are limited.

Summerhill, which is run by Hartlepool Borough Council and is a breastfeeding friendly site, also provides changing facilities and free car parking.

Adam Reah, from Summerhill, said: “Reading stories to young children can help to show them distant places, remarkable people and eye-opening situations to expand and enrich their world.

“The activity sessions, which are either an indoor craft session or an outdoor activity session, are great fun for kids and we hope will help inspire an interest in the world around them.”

The next sessions will be held on May 3, May 17, June 7 and June 21.

People can book in person at Summerhill Visitors Centre, or by calling (01429) 284584.
