Ian Young, a self-employed wagon driver who delivers white goods appliances, uses all his spare time to raise funds. His next venture is a charity night at the Staincliffe Hotel in Seaton Carew on Saturday, February 27, starting at 1pm.

It is being supported by organisations including Hartlepool Scooter Club, Hartlepool Monkey Hangers Scooter Club, the Vespa Club of Britain 230 Hartlepool, Stray Cats Scooter Club, A19s Scooter Club Cleveland, North Easts Wasps SC and The Vespa Club of Britain 202 Woolybacks.

Ian is a member of the A19s club which sponsored the event. He then approached the other clubs who also agreed to get involved. He said: “I lost a relative to dementia about three years ago and I have taken the opportunity to try and raise money for Gretton Court.”

Gretton Court is a purpose-built nursing home for elderly people and specialises in caring for people with dementia. Ian said: “Tickets are selling well but I would like to double the sales. It is 18 acts over 12 hours for £3 a ticket.”

Some acts will be travelling from as far as Manchester and Glasgow to give their services free of charge. It’s Ian’s biggest event to date. “It is stressful,” he admitted, “but it is a good cause. The people of Hartlepool are really good when it comes to charities but this one is for the town itself.”

He is normally based in Spennymoor but this past week, Ian has been working in the Birmingham and Coventry areas. He uses every spare moment to plan the charity event. “When I get a day off, it is heads down and I do have friends who help me.”

Acoustic sessions, bands and DJs will all be appearing on the bill in the event presented by In Crowd Promotions and Northern Soul Hartlepool.

T-shirts for £10 and wristbands for £1 will be sold at the event. Ian would love to hear from anyone who can donate prizes for a raffle.
