Christopher Wray, 30, of Church Street, admitted assault by beating against Gabrielle Dixon in October last year.

Hartlepool Magistrates’ Court heard how Wray, who has mental health problems and an alcohol problem, had carried out the assault on Ms Dixon, his former girlfriend, when she was packing to leave the flat she lived in, which was next door to his.

Gary Fothergill, prosecuting, said Wray was shouting and swearing and started smashing items, before grabbing her and putting his arm around her neck.

Simon Walker, defending said his client was aware he needs help for his problems.
