Gary Fothergill, prosecuting, said Wray was shouting and swearing and started smashing items, before grabbing her and putting his arm around her neck.

Simon Walker, defending said his client was aware he needs help for his problems.

He said: “He accepts that what he did that day was unacceptable.”

Wray was given a 24-month community order and a restraining order preventing him from contacting Ms Dixon.

He was also ordered to pay £60 in compensation and £100 towards court costs.
