Youngsters at Hart Primary School and Elwick Primary School took part in a school assembly run by the Kidney Federation to mark World Kidney Day earlier this month.

The organisation interacted with about 120 pupils in each school to teach them about kidneys and donors.

Both schools have since been asked to design a new badge for the organisation, with the best receiving a prize and the winning design used as the badge.

John McGann, chairman of the National Kidney Federation, said: “We wanted to put the word out that we still have a massive shortage of donors both living and deceased.

“The day went really well and the kids were really interactive. We had good feedback from the teachers.”
