Hartlepool rising star is crowned as dance champion

That’s super-talented Hartlepool teenager Georgia Lennon who took on other award-winning dancers from all over the country and beat the lot.

Georgia, 17, who trains with the Elwick Academy of Dance, is already known as a fantastic student but she added another top title to her illustrious list of successes when she took part in the Theatre Dance Council International Champion of Champions event.

Elwick Academy spokesman Leanne Jeffries said: “Georgia won the senior song and dance category.

“What happens is all championship winners of 2016 then dance again against each other for the title of champion of champions, and she won. She also won a £100 bursary award of the adjudicators choice and a 50% scholarship to London’s Urdang summer school.”

Leanne was justifiably elated with Georgia’s success.

She said: “What a way to end her championship days, with the ultimate title. I’m bursting with pride, she’s amazing and deserves everything she has ever achieved. This is the icing on the cake.”

Georgia’s mum Nicola Lennon said: “I’d like to thank everyone involved in Georgia’s training. We are very grateful for everything they have done for Georgia so far. This year will see Georgia take up a place at drama school in London in September and we’d like to thank everyone who has helped this dream become a reality.”

Georgia is also a student at The English Martyrs School & Sixth Form College. Georgia has performed in most of the school productions during her time at EMS. She started in the chorus in the early years and worked her way up to lead roles such as Mother Superior in the Sound of Music, Dorothy in Wizard of Oz, and Mary Magdalene in Jesus Christ Superstar.

She has performed in the Chamber Choir and runs a youth choir in school called EMS Voices. She also recently passed Grade 8 Singing set by The Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM).

After sixth form, she hopes to pursue a career in musical theatre at a top London schools.
