Hartlepool RNLI called to aid of boat broken down off town

The cew was paged at 3pm today, Wednesday, June 10, to assist a 30ft coble with three people on board that had suffered mechanical failure two miles off the Heugh breakwater.

The all-weather lifeboat 'Betty Huntbatch' and crew launched at 3.35pm and were alongside the casualty vessel a short time later where it was then towed to Kafiga Landings at the Headland, Hartlepool where members of the local Coastguard team helped return the boat to its berth.

The all weather lifeboat returned to the Ferry Road lifeboat station and was refuelled and made ready for service by 5.30pm.

Hartlepool RNLI deputy launch authority Steve Pounder said: “Once again a quick response from our volunteer crew who train to deal with these situations brought the incident to a safe conclusion.”The sea state was described as slight with a one-metre swell.
