Hartlepool RNLI called to rescue two people in the water after boat capsized

Hartlepool RNLI volunteer crew members were called to reports of two people in the water near Newburn Bridge after a boat capsized.

The all weather and inshore lifeboats were launched at 7.55pm, 15 minutes after the team was first paged by Humber Coastguard, on Wednesday, August 19.

Arriving on scene, they discovered that the Tees and Hartlepool Yacht Club safety boat had recovered the two people and was towing the dinghy back to the slipway.

The inshore lifeboat escorted the safety boat to the slipway and then returned to the Ferry Road lifeboat station with the all weather lifeboat.

Hartlepool RNLI Lifeboat operations manager Chris Hornsey said: “Humber Coastguard received two 999 calls from people on a nearby pier who had witnessed the boat capsize and obviously made the call with good intent.
