Hartlepool RNLI volunteer steps down after 20 years of service

Hartlepool RNLI volunteer Alastair Rae has retired from his position as lifeboat administration officer after 20 years’ service.

Alastair, who is public relations manager with Hartlepool Borough Council, sai: “I have taken the decision to step down with regret but the pressures of work and family commitments are impacting on my time and I feel the time is right to say goodbye.”

Malcolm Cook, chairman of Hartlepool RNLI Management Group Committee presented Alastair with a framed photograph of Hartlepool RNLI’s Trent Class All weather lifeboat, Betty Huntbatch, as a thank you for his loyal service.

“Alastair has done a great job over the last 20 years and we are sorry to see him go, he will be greatly missed.” said Malcolm Cook.

Hartlepool man Alastair thanked all the committee for their help and said: “It has been an honour and a pleasure to be involved with Hartlepool RNLI. The volunteer crewmembers are a great bunch of lads who do a great job selflessly to help save lives at sea.

“I have enjoyed my time on the Management Group Committee and really appreciate all the work done not just by the crewmembers, but also the volunteers of the fundraising enterprise branch and management officials.

“This photograph will have pride of place in my home and I wish you all well for the future and that you all stay safe.”
