The iconic cup is set to visit Greatham Church of England Primary School later this month after the school was nominated by a parent to win the prize in the Premier League Primary Stars Programme.

The national programme is a free online resource for teachers across England and Wales, which uses the appeal of the Premier League and professional football clubs to inspire children to learn, be active and develop important life skills.

The national competition attracted more than 9,000 parent nominations for over 5,000 primary schools, but it was Greatham Primary, on Egerton Terrace, that managed to take the top prize after being selected at random.

While the Premier League Trophy is at the school, Greatham will be celebrating with Hartlepool United Football Club and H’Angus the Monkey with a range of sporting and educational activities around the theme of respect and raising the aspirations of the children.

The children will also have the opportunity to have their photograph taken with the trophy.

Acting headteacher Michael Piper was delighted the school had won the prize.

He said: “We are one of five schools across the country that will be visited by the Premier League Trophy.
“The second place prize in the competition was some equipment for the school and a third prize was on offer, but we managed to get the top prize.

“We are really excited to have the visit, as we are quite a small school, so the Premier League Trophy is quite a big thing for us.

“It will be nice to see the trophy firsthand as we have all seen it on the TV.

“On the day there will be an assembly by someone from the Premier League and then kids will be able to have their photo taken with the trophy and then enjoy doing sports sessions with Hartlepool United.”
