Hartlepool school to develop the teachers of tomorrow

Dyke House Sports & Technology College, based on Mapleton Road, has been selected to become a National Teaching School.

That means that it will take a leading role in recruiting and training new entrants to the profession, identifying leadership potential and providing support for other schools.

Andrew Jordon, the executive principal at Dyke House, said: “We are delighted with our selection as a Teaching School and are looking forward to the range of opportunities this will provide to develop teaching and leadership within our alliance and beyond.”

Mr Jordon received a letter of congratulations fromthe Secretary of State for Education, the Rt Hon Nicky Morgan MP, describing how Dyke House’s selection was “testament to exceptional leadership and unwavering commitment to raising standards in schools”.

The National College for Teaching and Leadership (NCTL) has responsibility, in partnership with headteachers from the Teaching Schools Council, for the designation and quality of the teaching schools programme.

Charlie Taylor, the chief executive of NCTL, said: “Dyke House should be very proud of this achievement.

“The school has been recognised as a centre of excellence in its area, with an outstanding performance and a track record of raising standards through supporting other schools.”
