Also hoping to succeed the 2016 winner, 17-year-old Ellie Tyers, of Hartlepool, are Hartlepool’s Shauna Taylor, an 18-year-old student, and Billingham student Mary Johnson, 17, is also among the contenders.

Visitors to the Cleveland Centre were distracted from their shopping when the finalists lined up for the first time.

Shopping centre manager Graeme Skillen said: “We’re delighted to be supporting Miss Tees Valley once again.

“This isn’t so much a beauty contest but about finding a talented girl who can represent the Tees Valley as a true ambassador for the area.”

The 2015 Miss Tees Valley winner Rebecca Ridsdale, the 19-year-old Eston girl who went on to be crowned Top Model of England 2016, joined this year’s finalists at the Cleveland Centre photo shoot.

This year finalists are raising funds for Zoe’s Place Baby Hospice in Normanby, Middlesbrough, with £48,000 raised for local charities over the past four years.

September’s Grand Final will see the girls on the catwalk for rounds including rock ‘n’ roll, outfit of choice and evening wear.

The winner of Miss Tees Valley will qualify for the final of Supermodel England 2017, with prizes including an all-expenses-paid five-star trip to the Top Model of the World International Final.
