Hartlepool United point at Cambridge could be so important says Ronnie Moore

Two points dropped or a point won?

Ronnie Moore was not sure which camp he was in after seeing Cambridge United snatch a last-minute equaliser after Jake Gray had Pools ahead 20 minutes from time.

“Considering how we played Tuesday to then come here and play like that, the players should be proud of themselves,” said the manager.

“On another day, it could have been three points.

“But a draw is not bad.

“How many times have I said we either win or lose, we seldom get draws, so that point could be so important to us.”

No team in the land had drawn fewer times than Pools so the third single-point of the season was not unwelcome.

But for home goalie Will Norris it would have been all three.

“We should have been out of sight with the chances we had,” said Moore. “Their keeper has made some good saves - he was man of the match, no doubt.

“But you always know when it’s just the one-goal they are going to launch it because that’s what they are good at, they have some giants up top.

“We had a bit of luck with one or two but our luck ran out at the end.

“I don’t think they deserved it, we should have won it.

“We didn’t, but the pleasing thing is we didn’t lose it.

“There was still four-five minutes to go and they threw everything at us but we held on for a point we deserved.”

Moore was happy with his side, especially defensive duo Matthew Bates and Adam Jackson.

“We played good, fluent football, but we defended well too,” he said.

“Batesy has only played 60 mintues for the reserves after his broken toe, Jacko was up all night being sick but played because I couldn’t put Scott Harrison on there because he has a little tweak.

“For them two to play and play as they did is miraculous really.”
