Hartlepool United reserves suffer heavy home loss

Hartlepool United's reserve side suffered a home Central League hammering at the hands of Walsall on Tuesday afternoon.

A young Pools side, which contained weekend first-team debutant Aaron Cunningham, were beaten 5-1 at Victoria Park.

The visitors took the lead early on when Ethan Freemantle nodded in a corner.

Pools leveled when trialist Andrei Ardelean tucked home.

But second half strikes from Cameron Peters (3) and Dylan Parker sealed an emphatic win on their travels.

Youth teams boss Ian McGuckin said of Cunningham's return to action: "It’s good to see Aaron in the line-up and getting some more minutes under his belt.

“It’s a hectic schedule we have but games are always better than training and they offer the lads a great chance to impress on the back of the recent change in ownership."
