The 25-year-old signed for Pools last summer after a spell with Guiseley and netted five times during his debut season.

But the former Wolves frontman, as one of the club's higher-earners, was made available for transfer in the summer - although he remained a part of Matthew Bates' plans during pre-season.

However, the striker has struggled to nail down a regular starting place in the National League and has made just five appearances for United this season with two of those coming off the bench.

The striker did find the net in a 2-2 draw with Harrogate Town but the emergence of Niko Muir coupled with the return of Luke James has seen his opportunities limited in recent weeks, with Cassidy not even featuring on the bench in recent weeks.

Now, the Pools man will team-up with National League rivals Maidstone United on a loan deal which will see him stay with the Stones until January.

Cassidy becomes new boss Harry Wheeler's fourth signing for the club, despite the ex-Billericay man having only taken charge a fortnight ago.

Maidstone take on Braintree Town tomorrow afternoon, with the striker eligible to make his debut if selected.
