Hartlepool United to pay tribute to Ali Brownlee

The BBC Tees presenter, known as the 'Voice of the Boro', passed away after a short battle with cancer. He was just 56.

Tributes have poured in since Brownlee, who commentated on Middlesbrough matches for more than 30 years and also presented the station's breakfast show, passed away.

Club officials have confirmed a tribute will be paid to him tonight at Victoria Park.

A Pools statement read: "There will be a minute’s silence prior to our game against Notts County on Tuesday night as a mark of respect for BBC Tees presenter Ali Brownlee, who sadly died on Sunday.

"Ali, 56, had become known as the “Voice of the Boro” after commentating on their games for local radio for over thirty years but he was diagnosed with bowel cancer in November.

"While his main passion was for Middlesbrough, Ali was a fervent and loyal supporter of all sport in the north-east and his death has been felt right across the region.

"Pools fans will have their chance to pay tribute to him before kick-off on Tuesday with a minute’s silence at The Vic.

"Our thoughts and condolences are with Ali’s family and friends."
