Pools sacked Ronnie Moore on Wednesday in the aftermath of Tuesday night's home defeat by Stevenage.

Chairman Gary Coxall appointed Craig Hignett as the new manager on the same night and the 46-year-old took charge of his first match today, at home to Yeovil Town.

"A massive thank you must go to Ronnie Moore for everything he achieved last season in keeping us in the Football League when everyone else in the game believed it to be an impossible task," wrote Green in this afternoon's match programme, The Blueprint.

"We will certainly never forget what he did for our football club.

"Unfortunately, we were looking forward to move forward from that this season but it has not materialised in the fashion everyone expected so we feel now is the right time for a new management team to come in and bring a fresh outlook to the whole club.

"We have appointed Craig ... we feel his ambition and enthusiasm match that of ours at the club. He will be allowed to imprint his own ideals on the whole structure of the club, from the style of play to the whole philosophy at the Vic."
