Hartlepool United's Bristol Rovers & Wales U21 striker Ellis Harrison could be out for 2-3 weeks

Ronnie Moore will operate a wait and see policy on Ellis Harrison after seeing the striker leave the Abbey Stadium on crutches.

Harrison’s loan move from Bristol Rovers could be case of being over barely after it had begun following an injury in the 1-1 draw at Cambridge United.

The 21-year-old suffered damage to just above his left ankle after the half-hour mark following a heavy collision with U’s left-back Lewis page.

After lengthy treatment from head physio Ian Gallagher, Harrison was unable to continue and hobbled off the field in signficant discomfort.

He left the ground after the match with a ‘moonboot’ to protect the area and will be assessed today, possibly back at his parent club.

It is a blow for Pools and the player, who was hoping to regain his place in the Pirates team by starring for Pools during his month’s stay.

“I don’t think it is too bad, or not as bad as it first looked,” said Moore.

“We thought it was his ankle but it’s just above it.

“It’s not a good sign when you see a lad on crutches, but Buster [Gallagher] thinks it’s probably two to three weeks.

“But we won’t really know yet until the swelling goes down and he can be properly assessed.

“If he is injured then he’ll probably have to go back.”

Harrison impressed at the weekend and could have had a hat-trick inside the first 10 minutes.

He hit the post in a goalmouth melee from an early Jake Carroll free-kick while the keeper and defence also thwarted him.

“It was disappointing Harrison went off,” said Moore. “How he hit the post and didn’t score in the first half I don’t know.

“It hit the post, rolled right along the line and had another nibble and then the keeper’s got it.”

Moore is hopeful he will see the Wales U21 forward in a Pools strip again before the end of his deal on February 21.

“He was a threat, no doubt about that,” he said. “You can see that, he just needs games.

“He’ll score goals too.

“It’s just unfortunate he’s picked up this knock, but hopefully we’ll have him back before his loan ends.”
