Hartlepool's budding astronauts celebrate Tim Peake's space walk

Children at St Teresa’s School, in Callander Road enjoyed a space day, to celebrate British ESA astronaut Time Peake’s Principia mission to the International Space Station.

The day, supported by Jenny Harvey, science advisory teacher at the Centre for Industry Education Collaboration, began with an interesting presentation about life as a scientist, the pupils discovered more about Tim Peake’s training, as well as what life is like on the space station.

Year 3 and 4 pupils trained like astronauts investigating meteorites and craters, the weight of objects in space and how to create soft landings for landers to complete scientific research, as well as learning key skills like communication.

Year 5 and 6 children investigated distances in the solar system, meteorites and craters, and assessed the suitability of different landing sites for a rover to land on Mars.
