Anyone wishing to get involved is asked to go along to the Hartlepool Carnival Committee’s annual general meeting on Tuesday night.

A committee spokesman said: “As most people are aware the organising of the Carnival and our other events take a lot of time and effort to make them happen so we are always appealing to people with interest to join the Committee and contribute their thoughts and help.

“Anyone wishing to join the committee may do so by filling in a nomination form which are available from the Headland Social Club and on the evening of the meeting.”

The Annual General Meeting is on Tuesday, March 8, at 7pm in the Headland Social Club, Throston Street.

Last year, the small band of volunteers laid on two weeks of events, fun and games for people of all ages.

The packed programme included a kids’ talent show, bonny babies competition, pub quizzes, sand castle contest and treasure dig, many with cash prizes for the winners.

They are also responsible for bringing everyone together for the highlight of the carnival, parade day, which this year will fall on Saturday, August 6. Hundreds of people come out to take part in fancy dress or line the streets.

The carnival committee also hold the popular raft race and family day and are involved in the Headland’s Wintertide Festival in the run up to Christmas.
