Having a bad hair day? Use it to raise money in Hartlepool!

Campaigners at Alice House Hospice in the town are all geared up for a month of hairy fundraising!

The charity is looking to recruit as many people as possible to get sponsored to do something hair related, either on a date in or throughout the month of March. The whole project has been dubbed the Mad March Hair campaign.

Officials say it can be anything from being sponsored to get your hair dyed a wacky colour to having a bad hair day. It could also be anything from shaving your head to growing a bushy flowing beard.

But Hartlepool people may have some other wonderful hair-related idea they want to use.

A spokesman said: “The charity is also encouraging people to come up with their own hair-brained suggestions and would love to hear from you.”

One person has already shown how it’s done when they got the year off to a hair-raising start.

On January 1, hospice doctor Anjalika Attiken started the year by shaving her head to raise money for hospice services and generated more than £1,500 in sponsorship.

Her excellent efforts were warmly praised by fellow hospice officials.

The hospice’s community fundraiser, Janice Forbes, said: “Anjalika was an inspiration; what a great way to start the year.”

She added: “Now it’s our turn and we are expecting to have a hair-raising month in March.

“We are looking forward to seeing people’s photos. It should hopefully give people a laugh and more importantly, it should help to support hospice care services across Hartlepool and East Durham.”
