Headland body find: Family informed of death

Police have identified the body of a man who was discovered on Hartlepool's Headland.

The discovery was made in Heugh Breakwater, near the area's paddling pool, on Saturday morning.

A post-mortem has been carried out and officers have identified the man and informed his family. He was in his 30s.

One man from the area, who did not want to be named, said: "There are loads of scene of crime officers there and the coastguard too.

"People are saying that they have never seen as many police in the area at one time."

A spokeswoman for Cleveland Police said: "Police were called to Heugh Breakwater at the Headland in Hartlepool at 11.20am on Saturday where the body of a man was recovered.”

Police are continuing to treat his death as unexplained.
