Imagine feeling isolated from your local community.

For 180,000 people across the UK this is the difficult reality for people with sight loss.

Guide Dogs wants to change this with the ground-breaking My Guide service.

Volunteers are matched with a person with sight loss and the partnership works towards a pre-agreed goal.

These have included using a bus route so that a parent could take their child to school, going bowling, doing the weekly shop, visiting the theatre and cinema, tandem bike riding and even blind archery! We currently have service-users raring to go in Hartlepool but require volunteers.

Volunteers are asked to commit to the equivalent of a couple of hours a week, and this is flexible.

The volunteer role is sociable and fun.

You will have the satisfaction of knowing that you have made a direct contribution to someone getting out and about on their own terms.

It’s also great experience for anyone wanting to increase their employability and learn new skills.

Full training and ongoing support from a named contact is given to our volunteers, as are all reasonable out of pocket expenses.
