I still love you

She leaned on the railings, looking out to sea,

Her eyes a well of mischievous mystery.

Hair flowing around a bright smiling face,

Her body relaxed in my gentle embrace.

The moon cast a path of shimmering light

Upon a calm sea on that summer’s night.

This was the moment, no better time,

To ask the question and claim her as mine.

“Please listen darling, I’ve something to say;

“It’s been locked in my mind, just seeking a way.

“You know I love you, that was never in doubt;

“It’s the rest of the question I’m worried about.

“Please think about the next words I say,

“It’s for the rest of our lives, not just today.

“Will you walk down the aisle and say I do?

“Then I’ll hold your hand and say “I do” too.”

Do you remember that 50 years ago

We stood on the promenade toe to toe?

That night a voice whispered “yes I do,”

That voice still whispers “I love you.”
