'Incredible' RNLI volunteers rescued stranded water craft on Christmas Day

Hartlepool RNLI volunteers Christmas Day festivities were disrupted when they were called to assist two people whose personal water craft had suffered a mechanical failure off Middleton beach.

The volunteers were paged at 4.55pm by Humber Coastguard and the inshore lifeboat ‘Solihull’ was launched just 10 minutes later at 5.05pm.

They were alongside the casualty vessel a few minutes later where it was then towed to Hartlepool Marina where the local Coastguard Team were waiting to assist.

The inshore lifeboat returned to the Ferry Road lifeboat station at 5.50pm.

Hartlepool RNLI coxswain Robbie Maiden said: “Christmas night and once again the commitment from the volunteers leaving their loved ones at home on a special occasion and turning up on a freezing cold night to help someone in trouble at sea is incredible.

“Fortunately the casualty was dealt with quickly and safely allowing our crew members to go home to their families and enjoy the rest of the evening.”
