Jail for Hartlepool thieves who covered CCTV camera to avoid being caught

Carl Parvin and accomplice Danny Andrews were ‘mooching’ around Hartlepool in the early hours looking for things to steal, Teesside Crown Court heard.

“The bag was put over a camera at the Titan House housing complex in Hartlepool,” said Harry Hadfield, prosecuting.

“An attempt was later made to break into one of the flats.

“Parvin was on bail at the time for trying to break into a car parked in Peterlee.”

The court was told Andrews was seen trying car door handles in Whin Meadows, Hartlepool.

Mr Hadfield added: “He stole a satellite navigation system from another car nearby.

“Andrews also tried to break into a garage, but fled when the householder shouted at him.”

Parvin, 25, of no fixed abode, admitted attempted burglary and vehicle interference.

Andrews, 21, of Caithness Road, Hartlepool, attempted burglary, theft, and vehicle interference.

Andrew Teate, for Parvin, said: “Mr Parvin has problems with his accommodation after being thrown out of a half-way house.

“If he was given a chance by way of a suspended sentence, he could be curfewed to his father’s house.”

Jim Withyman, for Andrews, said: “Mr Andrews accepts a period of custody is likely.

“When he is released, he wants to break his cycle of drugs, alcohol abuse, and offending.”

Judge Tony Briggs jailed Parvin for 16 months, and jailed Andrews for 12 months.

The judge said: “Communities cannot be expected to tolerate people mooching around in the early hours looking for things to steal.”
