Middlesbrough striker Patrick Bamford looks set to sign for Championship rivals Leeds United, with the forward due for a medical at Elland Road today.

The two clubs have reportedly agreed a fee for the 24-year-old, believed to be in the region of £10million.

Bamford was an unused substitute during Boro's pre-season friendly with Sunderland on Friday night, when Britt Assombalonga led the line, and didn't travel to Victoria Park to face Hartlepool a day later.

Leeds manager Marcelo Bielsa has been chasing a striker all summer, and attempts to sign Derby forward Matej Vydra appear to have stalled.

Bamford would, therefore, seem a reliable option at Championship level, after scoring 10 goals in his final 15 league games last campaign.

He is also versatile and can operate on the wing as well as in a centre-forward position.

Boro manager Tony Pulis admitted on Friday that he is hoping to sign "a couple of players" before the transfer window closes on August 9.

Even if Bamford's departure is completed, Boro aren't short of attacking options, with Assombalonga, Ashley Fletcher and Martin Braithwaite all pushing to start Saturday's Championship opener against Millwall

Rudy Gestede could also be an option but remains an injury doubt after suffering a knock against Accrington Stanley earlier this month.
