Letter of the week: Something needs to be done about pedestrians getting in the way of Hartlepool cyclists
Don’t they realise that the paved areas in this town are for cyclists?
Forward-thinking councils in other towns I have visited have provided special lanes, admittedly for cyclists.

This is likely to be the result if they continue to wander around on the pavements outside shops, or loiter at bus stops.
The council must be aware of this dangerous situation as there is a closed-circuit TV camera on every street corner.
Other possibilities exist, of course.
Erecting signage banning pedestrians from pavements, on-the-spot fines for miscreants, limiting pedestrian access to pavements to between midnight and 4am, and so on.
In the interest of safety and, more importantly, to make cycling much easier, something needs to be done sooner rather than later.
A Anderson,
Hartlepool.
