Major Hartlepool road re-opens after police and army investigate suspicious package at car wash

One of Hartlepool's main roads was closed for more than four hours while police and army investigated a suspicious package.

The area around the AJS car wash was sealed off following the incident with the road eventually reopening after 8pm on Thursday.

A Cleveland Police spokesman said today: “Police were called at around 3.30pm yesterday to reports of a suspicious package at an MOT Centre on Catcote Road in Hartlepool, near to Brierton Lane.

“A small section of road Catcote Road was closed while investigations began and continued into the evening.

“Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) specialists were called to assess the package and confirmed that it did not pose a threat to the public.

“EOD were stood down at around 8.30pm.”
