Man airlifted to hospital after cliff fall

Emergency services were called to Nose’s Point beach in Seaham just before 10am on Monday, September 28, after a man had fallen from the cliffs.

A man in his 20s was flown to the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle by the Great North Air Ambulance Service.

A North East Ambulance spokeswoman said: “We were called at 9.46am to Nose’s Point in Seaham to an incident involving a patient who had fallen from a height.

“We dispatched a double crewed ambulance, an officer, a clinical care manager and four Hazardous Area Response Teams.

"Crews were helped by the Great North Air Ambulance Service, the police and the Coastguard.

"A male patient in his 20s was taken to the Royal Victoria Infirmary.”

A Great North Air Ambulance spokeswoman said: “The critical care team were called at 10.53am to Nose’s Point in Seaham.

"We arrived on scene at 11.07am and airlifted a patient to hospital.”

Hartlepool Coastguard Rescue Team also confirmed that they attended the incident, along with Sunderland Lifeboat Station.

A Hartlepool Coastguard Rescue Team spokesman said: “We were paged by Humber Coastguard along with RNLI - Sunderland Lifeboat Station, the North East Ambulance Service and the Great North Air Ambulance Service, to extract a casualty from the beach at Nose’s Point in Seaham

“The casualty was flown to hospital for treatment.”
