Man rescued after fire breaks out at care home

A man was given first aid by firefighters after a blaze broke out in a care home.

Cleveland Fire Brigade was called to Winford House, in The Causeway, Bilingham, with one man brought to safety by crews and given medical assistance.

The teams, sent to the scene from Billingham, Hartlepool, Stockton and Thornaby, used two jets to put out the fire, with four officers wearing breathing apparatus sent into the building.

A room of the home was left damaged by the fire, with further damage caused by smoke and light smoke damage caused to a corridor.

A thermal image camera was used while a fan cleared the building of fumes.

The incident was reported just before 3pm yesterday, Tuesday, June 10, with the crews on scene for around an hour and five appliances sent.

The North East Ambulance Service sent three resources to the scene, but no one required further treatment or needed to be taken to hospital.
