Man rescued from fire at Blackhall Colliery home

Firefighters have rescued a man from a house blaze in Blackhall Colliery.

Emergency services were called to a building fire in Ninth Street, Blackhall Colliery, at 12.39am today (Tuesday, October 20).

Firefighters rescued an man from inside the building who was then treated by paramedics at the scene. He did not require hospital treatment.

A County Durham and Darlington Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said: “Three fire appliances attended, two from Peterlee and one from Wheatley Hill to a single occupancy dwelling.

"They evacuated one adult male from the building. Firefighters used breathing apparatus, hose reel and positive pressure ventilation unit to extinguish the fire which was located in the kitchen. Police were in attendance. The stop call came in at 1:18am.”

The fire brigade is now warning others and offering tips to residents to help protect their home and family.

A North East Ambulance Service spokeswoman added: “We were called at 12.40am to a house fire on Ninth Street, in Blackhall Colliery. We sent two resources from our Hazardous Area Response Team, treated and discharged one patient at the scene.”
