Man taken to hospital after being hit by car in Hartlepool

A 23-year-old man has been taken to hospital with a head injury after being hit by a car in Hartlepool.

The incident took place on Powlett Road, part of which was closed off by police before later being reopened.

The man has been taken to James Cook University Hospital, in Middlesbrough, after treatment at the scene.

A Cleveland Police spokesperson said: “Police were called out at 6.25pm having been informed a male had been hit by a car.

Paramedics attended the scene to treat the man, who was knocked over by a blue Vauxhall Insignia.

“A 23-year-old male was the pedestrian, and he suffered a head injury. There is nothing suggesting it is a serious head injury at this stage.

“The road was closed off while we carried out inquiries, from the roundabout on Powlett Road and Winterbottom Avenue, along the junction to Millbank Road.

“The road has since reopened and is now clear.

“The male was taken to James Cook University Hospital, in Middlesbrough, by ambulance.”

A spokesperson for North East Ambulance Service said: “We attended an RTC on Monday evening at Powlett Road.

“The patient was taken to hospital.”

A man at the scene said: “Police cars and ambulances were racing about all over the place in the area after it happened.

“It seemed to be being treated as a serious accident. Ambulances were at the scene as well as scores of police.”
