The striker limped out of Pools’ 3-0 loss at Salford after just 17 minutes with an ankle problem, but Bates is hopeful his frontman will be OK to lead the line at the Super 6 Stadium on Saturday.

He said: “It is just a kick - that is all we think it is at the moment,” said Bates.

“That is all I can say at the moment.”

“There is no recall,” said Bates of the striker, on loan at Maidstone United.

“He will be away until January as far as I am concerned.”

Ahead of two home fifth tier games on the bounce, the manager added: “The lads are disappointed. But we dust ourselves down. It just shows how far we have come in such a short space of time.

“We get back on the horse and go again to get a win at the weekend.

“If we get a win we will have had a good week from a tough run of games.”
