The young striker attracted interest from across the continent this summer, but Liverpool were keen to keep hold of the 20-year-old and swiftly rejected any approaches for the England international.

Reports in the Evening Standard suggest that Middlesbrough, Lyon, Rangers, Aston Villa and Huddersfield Town all submitted offers for the former Chelsea man during the summer.

Jurgen Klopp, however, was not willing to entertain any offers as he views the frontman as a good option for the Premier League campaign.

Middlesbrough were keen to secure some attacking recruits over the summer, with Patrick Bamford leaving for Leeds and doubts surrounding the futures of Britt Assombalonga and Martin Braithwaite.

Solanke's versatility - the youngster is able to play out wide or just behind the striker - could also have been viewed as valuable by Tony Pulis and could have helped provide a solution to the void left by Adama Traore.

Ultimately, Pulis was unable to source a striker signing before the August 31 deadline - but that seems to have had little impact after Boro enjoyed an unbeaten start.

While he may not be a regular at Anfield, Klopp's insistence on keeping the striker on Merseyside could be viewed as an indication that his first team chances may increase this season.

And the Middlesbrough target is still attracting attention from the England senior set-up, with manager Gareth Southgate recently saying: " “I still have a lot of faith in the likes of Solanke in particular, who I think has been outstanding at every age level.”

Meanwhile, the Teessiders continue to be linked with a move for free agent Bakary Sako - with the winger also interesting Nottingham Forest and West Brom following his release from Crystal Palace.
