Motorcyclist fights for life after collision with car injures two pensioners

A motorcyclist is fighting for his life after he was airlifted to hospital following a collision which also left two pensioners with injuries.

Police are now appealing for witnesses to the accident or anyone who may have seen the vehicles prior to the crash to contact them.

The incident took place just before 2.30pm on Monday, June 1, on the A182 Easington-South Hetton road, near East Durham Garden Centre, and involved a Kawasaki ZX600 bike and a Nissan Note car. Durham Police say: “The 37-year-old motorcyclist suffered life-threatening injuries and was flown to hospital.

“The driver, a 74-year-old man, and his passenger, a 72-year-old woman, suffered minor injuries.

“Officers would like to speak to anyone who witnessed the collision or saw the vehicles being driven beforehand.

“They would also like to hear from anyone who may have dashcam footage of the collision or the lead up to it.”
