And the 29-year-old admits he cannot wait to get started at the Vic.

Speaking to the club's official website, Devon, who has cut his teeth coaching in the USA, said: "The organisation at the club is already in place – they started out at a certain level and have built on it every year so now I want to help continue that.

"I did a bit of reading about them when I first saw the job was available and the foundations for more success are certainly there because the set-up is strong.

"From what I understand, they’re looking for someone to come in with a different voice and new ideas so hopefully I can be the right person to do that."

Devon, who holds a UEFA B Licence, takes over from Andy Stuart, who has recently stepped down after six years in charge of the North East Regional Women’s Football League Premier Division side.

Stuart will remain as chairman of the ladies, with wife Dawn also continuing her role as secretary.

Despite a certain level of continuity, Devon is key to make his mark at Pools.

"I have been looking to get involved in something like this and put my own stamp on it so I am really excited," he said.

"We’ve already got a very talented team but there are one or two things I hope I can bring in to help them improve further.

"I want to try and get the fitness side of things boxed off pretty quickly in pre-season so we can focus on the work to implement my small changes and get across how I want them to play.

"It’s a great challenge and an exciting role so I just want to get my teeth in to it now."
