New systemis '˜useless'

The Picture of the Day (Mail, October 22) was an excellent photo of the new Town Wall flood defence system, costing £1.2million.

As can be seen, the new inner wall has a drainage system in the base.

In the event of a tide surge over-topping the outer wall, the water is expected to return to the sea through the pipe on the beach, which can be seen in the distance in the photo.

In the event of this tide surge, the outlet on the beach will be under approximately 15ft of water, forcing water up into the drainage system.

In my opinion, this £1.2million so-called flood defence system is useless.

Also, the sea will enter the Headland through Sandwell Gate.
