Newcastle 'prepared to outbid Tottenham for Berahino'

Newcastle United are prepared to outbid Tottenham to out bid West Brom striker Saido Berahino, according to reports.

The 22-year-old has long been a transfer target for the Magpies, who desperately need a goalscorer to haul themselves away from the Premier League's relegation zone.

It has been suggested that owner Mike Ashley would sanction breaking the club transfer record - the £16m paid to Real Madrid for Michael Owen - to land their man.

Berahino has been out of the picture at The Hawthorns this season, but made a goalscoring return to the Baggies' starting line-up yesterday, getting both their goals in their FA Cup 4th Round draw with Peterborough United.

Sunday Express journalist John Richardson said on Sky Sports' Sunday Supplement programme this morning that he understands Newcastle are at least willing to pay upwards of £20m to sign Berahino.
