Not the time for cutbacks

I was surprised to hear that Cleveland Police has decided to significantly reduce staff numbers.

It will close public access to stations in Billingham, Thornaby, Coulby Newham, Eston, South Bank, Redcar, Guisborough, Saltburn, and Loftus.

Only residents of Middlesbrough, Kirkleatham, Hartlepool and Stockton will have access to police stations.

Recently, we heard that crime in the Cleveland policing area had risen by 22% over the last year.

When crime is on the rise, is this really the time to be reducing frontline services available to the public?

I understand that budgets are tight but I would encourage Cleveland Police and Labour Party PCC Barry Coppinger to reconsider this decision.
