Old snaps of Hartlepool schools - are you top of the class?

Today we launch the first in a new nostalgia series, featuring old snaps of Hartlepool schools over the decades.

“We’ll be publishing as many images of the town’s schools as we can over the next few weeks,” said Mail archivist Susan Swinney.

“We know dates and places for some, but others are a bit of a mystery. If you want to see your old school featured, just get in touch.”

Two of today’s batch of photos were taken at Galley’s Field School, which opened in 1898 and closed almost 80 years later in 1973.

Another shot shows the choir at Seaton Carew School in 1965; built as a National School in 1844, but later rebuilt in Crawford Street.

“Our final photo was taken at Dyke House Comprehensive, which is still going strong as a Sports and Technology College,” said Susan.
