One man taken to hospital after fire crews are called during early hours to blaze in Hartlepool street

One man has been taken to hospital after firefighters were called to a flat in Hartlepool during the early hours of Tuesday morning.

Cleveland Fire Brigade received a report of a blaze at a ground floor flat in Mulgrave Road in Hartlepool shortly after 1am today, Tuesday, December 22.

Firefighters worked for almost two hours to bring the blaze under control before leaving just after 3am.

One man was given oxygen and first aid by the fire brigade before being taken to hospital in an ambulance for further treatment.

A Cleveland Fire Brigade spokesperson said: “Front of property severely damaged by fire, rear of property severely damaged by smoke.

“Four Breathing Apparatus, one Hose Reel, one Thermal Image Camera and Positive Pressure Ventilation Fan used.

"Fan also used in first floor flat but no damage to flat."
